Once again a very warm welcome to Drishti 2008.. It is my privilege to place before you the annual report of the college for the academic year 2007-08. A hectic, exciting, and a fast paced paced one, this academic year added many feathers in the cap of the college. It was as though we had just begun and now we are approaching the end. But it has been a year of satisfaction because we have taken a few more definite steps towards the making of a great institution SBMJCE. The vision and mission of SBMJCE is that the Engineers Coming out of this College should be disciplined citizens of this country taking active role in Nation-building.
The academic year officially started in August 2007 with students displaying a lot of enthusiasm and zeal. On September 3rd 2007 , the 3rd batch of students entered the portals of the college .The inaugural function saw big wigs of the industry sharing their secrets of success with the students .Dr H P Khincha – vice chancellor VTU, along with Sri Alok Ohrie MD – AMD FAR EAST LTD.(INDIA),Sri boby K Joseph Director,Automation and control solutions Honeywell Technology Solutions Lab Pvt Ltd. and Sri ratish Pandey Country General Manager , Bose Corporation India pvt Ltd who inspired us with their outlook on education and entrepreneurship.
The Department of masters in computer applications (MCA) was introduced.
ACADEMIC LANDMARKS
There has been steady progress in the academic front and I am proud to say we are at the top of all round development -Academic infrastructure and other facilities.
The College has well-qualified members of the faculty all of them holding Ph.D / M.Tech degrees in their respective disciplines and their are 30 more members to join us. Apart from the technical staff in the laboratories, we have a good number of supporting staff.
University Examinations:
The results this academic year were very encouraging. The college scaled new heights wrt pass percentage & distinction. The performance of our students at University examination is worth-mentioning. We are in the top 5 colleges wrt the first year results in VTU. The results in all departments are also encouraging I congratulate the faculty for their effort in this regard.

The CET is headed by Dr.Krishna Venkatesh and there are 12 members working under him. This is a centre encouraged by the Chairman, Jain Group of Institutions as a part of the incubation centre.

SBMJCE recognised as VTU valuation centre
SBMJCE has been recognised as the only valuation centre of VTU in Bangalore, The arrangements provided by the centre was well appreciated by the valuers and also VTU.
Achievements
Department of Mechanical Engineering
· Mrs. Vidya Rao secured the best participant award in the Infosys Campus Connect Programme.
· Dr. Y Vijaya Kumar and Dr. B K Ananda completed the professioncy course at IISc at IPR.
· Dr. Y Vijaya Kumar attended a National Conference in Recent Trends in Mechanical Engineering and chaired the Technical Session.
· Four students of VI Semester Mechanical secured the II Place in Pulveriser Competition in Engineer 2008 at NITK Surathkal.
· Three students of VI Semester Mechanical participated in Tech Fest 2008 at IIT Bombay and secured III Place in Wings Competition.
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering
· Prof. Anandthirtha B Gudi presented a technical paper titled “Application of Adaptive Signal Processing Case study at the National level conference at SJBIT, Bangalore.
· Ms. Sowmyashree K N attended the STTP on Micro Controller and HDL lab at RNSIT, Bangalore.
· Mr. Swaroop B N and Raghavendra T N won the second place at BMSCE in Robotics Event.
· Mr. Punit Kumar Gouthi won the first place in Distinguished Engineer and second place in quiz at zonal level of Aspirations 2020 organized by the Infosys.
· Mr. Punit Kumar Gouthi also won the first place in the Distinguished Engineer at State Level at Aspirations 2020 organized by Infosys.
· Mr. Prashanth S, Punit Kumar Gouthi and others won the overall championship at Quanta 2007 hosted by ICFAI.
· Mr. Vyasaraja S Y participated in reality shows organized by the T V Channels and also represented Karnataka in the National Level Singing Competition.

Department of Computer/Information Science & Engineering
· Mr. T R Mahesh, faculty along with the students presented the paper titled “Implementation of Messenger for Mobiles using Sip” at the National conference on “Recent Trends in Information Technology” held at NHCE and won the best paper award.
· Mr. T R Mahesh along with the students presented a paper titled “DSR Protocol using Fuzzy logic” at the National Conference “Ncait-08” held at SJBIT, Bangalore.
· Mr. Ashuthosh Singhal presented the paper titled “Message Screening Mobiles using Phython” on Advances in Information Technology at DBIT, Bangalore and won the best paper award.
· A Technical Lecture on “Oracle-workforce development programme was delivered by Mr. Raja DAS Gupta, Oracle Corporation.
· A Technical lecture on “Current Trendz in IT was delivered by Mr. Bala Mahadevan, Chairman, CSC Ltd.

Department of Basic Sciences
· Dr. J S Prakash obtained Ph.D in Chemistry and Mr. B C Prasanna Kumar obtained his Ph.D in Mathematics

PLACEMENT & TRAINING
I am happy to announce that we made a modest beginning in the placements of the students.
As part of the Industry Institute initiative a full fledged Placement & Training cell has started operating on the campus and although our third year students are yet to complete, 42 of them have already found placement in various industries.

The remaining students are being groomed in personality development communication & soft skills to enable them to be accepted immediately into industry.
EVOLVE - a preplacement training program by cognizant technological solutions was conducted.

From the next academic year, we propose to introduce preplacement training into the regular timetable, personality development and other skill development for the second, third & final year students. So that they are well prepared for taking up challenging jobs in industry and the service sector.
AMHITI 2008, donation of life...
The college organised a blood donation camp, named ‘AMHITI’ where 373 units of blood were donated to NIMHANS and KIDWAI. Students, teachers, staff members and local people took part in great earnest to join hands with us in this noble endeavour.
INFINITY 2008..
“Talent” is a special aptitude which every one of us possesses and to discover these talents and nurture them is a very difficult task.” The mega-event was held on the 27th, 28th and 29th of March 2008. A pool of cultural, technical and management events were conducted which included events like Corporate Quiz, Ultimate CEO, Gaming, Extreme Engineering, Rube Goldberg Contraption and lots more.. Many outstanding performances were on display. The building echoed with cheers for EC, EEE, CS, IS and the MECHIES. It was one event which will never be away from the hearts of all the students. Fortune favours the brave. We end with the note with which we began “Peace has its own victories, but it takes a brave man to win them, let the best man win.”

SPORTS
Believing in the saying a healthy body makes a healthy mind, thus physical education has become integral part of our curriculum with extensive facilities , all under the supervision of much committed, enthusiastic Physical Director Mr S Vijayraju.
For the 1st time in the history of SBMJCE WE HOSTED A T 20 match series at jain global campus
12 colleges participated from various parts and the event went on for a week in which our college team stood second and sir mvit were the winners
· JD walsch from newyork visited our campus and our college basketball team members attended the training camp at sprintoor by the coach conducted in the campus.

· VTU TOURNAMENT

Our budding Sportsmen have been participating in a number of zonal & university Sports & athletics meets
Our college participated in cricket,basketball,volleyball,football,Swimming – we have grabbed 9 medals at vtu intercollegiate competition organised by KSIT.
Table-tennis – runners up in intercollegiate competition organised by PESIT.
· DARSHAN R MAYYA of 4th sem ece represented vtu in swimming event for 2nd consecutive time held at Calicut,kerala.
· ANUPAM KUMAR of 6th sem mech , represented vtu cricket held at Andhra Pradesh
· BHARATH of 4th sem comp. Science is an upcoming cricketer and has played for U-19 Cricket team.

INTRACOLLEGIATE SPORTS
The sports day saw our sportsmen battling it out for top spot. sports fest was Held at college on 1st 2nd 3rd of may2008 in which not only students but also teaching and non teaching staff members actively participated.
FOOD FEST
Hostel students had a fun-filled week. An 8 day food festival with European, Andhra, chineese, and fusion styles of food . The manifestations of the students included dress codes like black and white , mismatch, ethnic wear, casual, and finally the Costume party held at different venues.

The year was a special one and shall go down as a momentous one in the red books of SBMJCE.A new year to begin and we shall get ready to face all the situations with a smile.
If we could sell our experiences for what they cost us, we would all be millionaires. But we all cherish our experiences and endeavour to push the limits.
